Box Score Monmouth pushed conference contender Ripon to the limit Sunday morning, but came up just shy of knocking off the Red Hawks, falling 5-4.
The Scots took a 2-1 lead coming out of doubles when the No. 3 tandem of
Lexi Tibbs and
Haley Johnston pulled out an 8-6 win and the No. 2 team of
Rachel Leifheit and
Natalie Curtis cruised to an 8-0 win. Leifheit and Curtis added to the win total with straight set victories in singles play - Leifheit at No. 4 and Curtis at No. 5.
After
McKenzie DeVilder, Johnston and Tibbs dropped their singles matches in straight sets at Nos. 2, 3 and 6, respectively,
Emma Johanns locked in a three-setter at No. 1 to determine the team outcome with the squads knotted at 4-4. Johanns dropped Set 1, 6-3, but rallied back with a 6-3 win in the second set to force the third set. Ripon took the match with a 6-1 Set 3 win.
Monmouth returns to action Wednesday night at 4:30 in a rescheduled match with Illinois College.
