TENNIS ENDS DAY WTIH COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth shook off a 9-0 loss to St. Norbert in Saturday's doubleheader opener to rally for a 7-2 win over Lawrence in the nightcap.

The Scots nearly pulled out three victories to open the day with St. Norbert, but tight matches went the Green Knights' way in the morning session. Rachel Leifheit and Natalie Curtis battled at No. 2 doubles before falling 9-7. A pair of three-set singles matches ensued. Haley Johnston dropped the first set at No. 3, but took Set 2, 6-4 before falling in the final set 10-3. Curtis suffered a similar fate at No. 5 where she dropped the first set 7-6, but rolled to a 6-1 second set win. She ws edged in the tiebreaker 10-7.

Monmouth started in the hole when they faced Lawrence in the afternoon. Only Leifheit and Curtis were able to pick up a doubles win, taking the No. 2 pairing 8-5 as teh Scots opened singles play trailing 2-1. The Scots then rallied, taking all but No. 3 singles to win the match and climb into contention in the Midwest Conference. Emma Johanns (No.1), McKenzie DeVilder (No.2), Leifheit (No.4) and Curtis (No. 5) all won their matches in convincing straight sets. Playing at No. 6, Lexi Tibbs easily won the first set 6-2, but had to outlast her opponent in the decisive second set 7-5 for the clinching fifth Scots' win.

A 9 a.m. match is on tap for Sunday when the Scots host Ripon.
