Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Monmouth earned the midweek sweep Wednesday, downing Lebanon Valley 4-2 in the opener and 8-7 in the nightcap as
Jake Starkey earned the save in both games.
Â
The Scots jumped out on top in Game 1 when Starkey led off the game with a triple and scored on
Matt Temaner's base hit. Temaner then came home on
Christian Lett's single as Monmouth sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning. Monmouth added solo runs in the sixth and seventh and withstood a two-run seventh-inning rally by the Flying Dutchmen.
Asa Stevenson picked up the win with six solid innings, scattering five hits while fanning five and walking two before handing it over to the bullpen. Starkey came on in the seventh to relieve the bullpen with one out and two on, shutting down the LVC rally.
Â
The Dutch banged out four straight hits – one a three-run homer – to open Game 2 and take a quick 4-0 lead. The Scots answered with four hits in their half of the inning – all singles – and cut the margin in half with a pair of runs. LVC tacked on another run in the second and two in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead after the Scots had plated two in the third. The Scots took advantage of a walk, hit batsman and an error in the fifth to plate three runs to knot the game at 7-all. Monmouth took the lead in the sixth when
Mike Dato reached after getting hit and replaced by pinch runner
Thomas Witty. Witty moved to second on a shortstop error and promptly stole second. He raced home with the eventual winning run when
Harry Sanchez' batted ball was misplayed. Starkey then closed out his third save in four Monmouth wins facing four batters in the seventh.

It's another doubleheader for the Scots Thursday when they face Elizabethtown College.
