Monmouth overcame an off-shooting day with defense in a 61-53 win over Central Sunday at Glennie Gym.

The Scots trailed 33-27 at the intermission but turned up the pressure, forcing 11 second half turnovers by the Dutch, holding Central to just six, third quarter points. Monmouth regained the lead late in the third period forcing five turnovers in a three minute span to rally with a 7-1 run, taking a 37-36 lead on
Becca Gallis' bucket in the lane.
Carley Turnbull followed with a layup and
Jordan Kintigh's inside jumper gave the Scots a 41-36 lead with 1:10 left in the frame. The Scots inched away in the final 10 minutes as Gallis hit five of her 16 points at the outset of the fourth quarter. Turnbull, who had six points at the half, led the Scos with 19 points while
Kaitlyn Osmulski came off the bench to post 13. Monmouth finished the game shooting 41 percent from the floor and 26 percent from 3-point range after entering the game making over half their shots.

The Scots open Midwest Conference play this weekend, opening at St. Norbert Friday before playing at Beloit Saturday.
