Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MEN RECLAIM POTENTIAL PLAYOFF BERTH

A day after slipping out of the top four in the Midwest Conference, the Monmouth men's soccer team has climbed back into contention with a 5-2 win at Lawrence.

The Scots got plenty of firepower as Lukas Nilsson netted a pair of goals, Agustin Miranda scored three assists and a goal and Lucas Sondgeroth netted the game winner while adding an assist. Miranda hooked up with Martin Zafirov for the game's first goal in the fifth minute, but the Scots found themselves tied 1-1 at the half when the Vikings netted the tying goal in the 29th minute. Just four minutes into the second half, Sondgeroth fed Miranda for a goal to put the Scots ahead 2-1 to begin a three-goal Monmouth run. Sondgeroth's goal in the 69th minute - the middle goal of the 3-0 run - became the eventual game-winner and was followed by the first of Nilsson's two scores.

Monmouth outshot the Vikings 29-7, putting 13 shots on goal while allowing just four shots on goal by Lawrence.

The win gave Monmouth 10 playoff points, one more than Lake Forest and Grinnell. With two games left, the Scots travel to Grinnell Saturday and end the regular season a week later hosing Ripon.
