SPARKS SETS RECORDS AS SCOTS STAGE DRAMATIC 9TH INNING COMEBACK

Box Score Ryan Sparks set the career records for hits, doubles and total bases helping Monmouth rally in an 8-3 win over Ripon in the Scots' final game of the Midwest Conference Crossover in Maustin, Wis.

Trailing 3-2 after Beloit touched the Scots for three, eighth inning runs, the Scots batted around in the ninth, taking advantage of a pair of Beloit errors with two outs. Zach VanWassenhove's two-out base hit allowed two runs to score as Monmouth took a 4-3 lead and collected six straight hits in the inning, including Spark's second double of the day. Ridge Greenman sat down three of the four batters he faced in the bottom of the inning to earn the save after starter Asa Stevenson had work six scoreless innings and allowing just three hits.

Sparks and Grant Myers each finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate while Sparks added a pair of RBIs. Sparks' first hit, a single, broke the Scots' career mark and the total bases record. His double in the eighth inning bettered the team's career mark for two baggers.

Monmouth returns home to host Cornell in an MWC South Division doubleheader Saturday at noon.
