Â
The Scots opened the twinbill with a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Bryson Sheppard's base hit drove in
Dayton Ince with the game's first run. Monmouth held the 1-0 lead until the third when the Privateers scored four, two-out runs to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Â
Maritime struck first in the nightcap, but the Scots struck more often after falling behind 2-0 after the first half inning.
Austin Hardy's basehit plated
Ryan Sparks in the bottom of the frame and a
Matt Inness sac fly in the second as the Scots knotted the game at 2-2. Monmouth took advantage of four hits and three Maritime errors in the third to bring eight runs across the plate to back the four-hit pitching of
Asa Stevenson. Stevenson survived a Privateer five-run fifth and turned it over to the bullpen as
Josh Fuchs and
Ryan Sparks kept Maritime hitless over the final two innings.
