Box Score Monmouth outhit Illinois Wesleyan in the Fighting Scots' season finale, but came up just short in a 4-2 road loss Tuesday night.
 
Ryan Sparks gave a hint of things to come in the first inning, opening the game with a base hit to left – his first of two in the game – as the Scots produced three hits in the first inning. Grant Myers's base hit – also his first of two hits – brought Sparks home for a 1-0 Monmouth lead.
 
Monmouth held the lead behind Tyler McDonald until the bottom of the third when the Titans took advantage of a pair of Scots' errors to plate two unearned runs. IWU added solo runs in the sixth and seventh to increase their lead to 4-1 before the Scots trimmed the deficit in the eighth.
 
Austin Hardy's third hit of the game, a two-out double set the table for Nic Stevens. Steven's base knock brought Hardy  home for the game's final run.
 
McDonald suffered the loss despite seven strong innings allowing just two earned runs while scattering six hits, striking out four and walking no one.
