Box Score 2 Monmouth's bats were hot in Iowa, pounding out 20 hits in the doubleheader, but came up just a run short in a pair of losses at Cornell, dropping Game 1, 4-3 and falling in the 11
th inning of the nightcap 8-7.

The Scots spotted
Austin Hardy a 3-0 lead in the opener after Nick Stevens' double plated two runs and a ground out by harry Sanchez moved Stevens home. Cornell got one run back in their half of the inning and took advantage of a pair of Monmouth errors in the third to knot the game at 3-3.

Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when the Rams took advantage of a leadoff walk – one of two in the inning – and scored the game-winner with a two-out single.

Monmouth came back from a four-run deficit in the nightcap with a sixth-run eighth. Trailing 5-1, the Scots got the bats rolling with two outs. After
Bryson Sheppard scored on a passed ball and
Matt Mullen on a wild pitch,
Ryan Sparks kept the inning alive with a two-out hit. A
Jake Starkey single followed and
Lucas Giertz drew a walk. Stevens then reach on a hit batsman. Hardy came through with his fourth hit of the day driving in Starkey and Giertz to give the Scots a 6-5 lead. Monmouth tacked on another run on a wild pitch before the inning was out to take a two run lead.

Cornell rallied with two unearned runs in the eighth, knotting the game at 7-7. The Rams then scratched out the winning run with a walk-off base hit in the 11
th.
