Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Monmouth's bats came alive in Saturday's second game at Beloit, a 10-0 win after being silent in a 5-1 Game 1 loss.
Â
The Scots scored early and often in the nightcap, earning freshman pitcher
Tyler McDonald his first win.
Austin Hardy's two-run triple in the first capped a three-run inning. Monmouth added four more in the second with two outs. Three straight hits – two singles and a double gave McDonald more than enough cushion to back his three-hit pitching.
Victor Jacobsen later added a three-run double for good measure in the seventh for the final margin.
Â
The Scots' 10 hits in Game 2 was in contrast to Game 1 when Beloit shut down the Scots' offense, pitching around base runners until the ninth when
Dayton Ince was walked after collecting back-to-back hits. Ince eventually scored the Scots' lone run in the game, being awarded the plate on a balk.
Â
The Bucs touched the Scots for four runs in the fourth to put the game away after scratching out a solo run in the first.
Connor McDonald came from the bullpen in the sixth and worked out and worked out of a two-on, no out game before settling in and shutting the Bucs down over the final three frames.
