Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth got two stellar pitching performances and banged out 13 hits in Game 1, but had to settle for a 14-2, 2-1 split with Iowa Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at Glasgow Field.
 
Leading 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth in the opener, the Scots erupted for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Harry Sanchez in the 14-2 win. His hit was the fifth of the inning as the Scots then batted around in the sixth when the freshman leftfielder notched his second two-run double of the game to ice the win. Sanchez's four-RBI production was nearly matched by Brandon Harroun who drove in the Scots' first two runs in the second inning and finished with three RBIs.
 
Austin Hardy, who has yet to surrender an earned run this season, picked up the win in six innings of work while Grant Myers was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
 
The hits were a bit harder to come by in the 2-1 loss in the nightcap.
 
Tyler McDonald scattered four hits and didn't allow an earned run in his seven innings, but came up short on the scoreboard when the Tigers broke a scoreless tie in the sixth, plating two runs. Iowa Wesleyan made the most of two hits in the inning as McDonald had faced one batter over the minimum to that point. A lead off hit was followed by an error and back-to-back ground outs, scoring the eventual winning run on a fielder's choice double steal.
 
Monmouth got one run back in their half of the sixth when Jake Starkey led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on Ryan Sparks' ground out. Hardy then brought Starkey home with his first hit of the game before Iowa Wesleyan got out of the inning. The Tigers closed the game out in the seventh, allowing only a two out walk in the frame.
