SCOTS DOMINATE IN ROAD WIN TO STAY PERFECT ON THE SEASON

Box Score No. 20 Monmouth stayed unbeaten on the season, scoring on their first six possessions while the defense held the opposition to less than 100 yards rushing for the sixth time in seven games as the Fighting Scots rolled to a 69-7 win at Illinois College.

Brock Thoms hauled in five passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns, the first a 33-yard throw from Tanner Matlick on the Scots' second play from scrimmage to open the flood gates. Used sparingly, Matlick connected on 11 of 15 passes for 181 yards and two TDs.

Monmouth put four touchdowns on the board in the first quarter and three more in the second to take a 49-0 halftime lead for the second straight week.

With backup quarterback Hayden Nelson guiding the offense in the second half, the Scots added a pair of field goals and two more TDs, the first touchdown a five yard run by Nelson on their second possession of the half.

Special teams also got in on the scoring when Austin Ray recovered a blocked punt in the endzone and Brennan White added a 20 yard field goal to round out the scoring.

The win moved the Scots to 5-0 in the Midwest Conference. Monmouth will play at Beloit next Saturday.
