Strating Named Football Defensive Performer of the Week

Monmouth College junior linebacker Carson Strating (Morrison, Illinois) was named Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week on Monday.

In Monmouth's 23-16 win over Chicago on Saturday, Strating posted a career-high 16 tackles with two interceptions, a fumble recovery, three pass break ups and 1.5 tackles for loss. Strating ended Chicago's first and last drives of the game with a turnover as the Scots moved to 5-0 in MWC action.

On the first Chicago play of the game, Strating recovered a fumble forced by Tristan Brown (Arlington, Texas). On the next Maroons drive, Strating picked off a pass near midfield with a leaping catch and returned the ball to the Chicago 30. The turnover helped to set up Monmouth's first score of the game. On the first play after the two-minute warning and with the Scots up 23-16, Strating picked off a Chicago pass and returned the ball to the UC 38. That ended up being Chicago's final play of the game on offense as the Scots picked up a first down and ran out the clock.

Strating finished the game with 16 tackles, a career-high, and he also added 1.5 tackles for loss. He broke up three passes and nearly had a third interception. Strating and the Scots limited Chicago under 100 total yards in the first half.

The Scots (5-2, 5-0) play at Illinois Chicago on Saturday before hosting Grinnell for Senior Day on Nov. 7.
