Box Score Monmouth turned in a school-record 710 yards – 306 on the ground – in a 57-14 Homecoming win over Cornell Saturday at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
Tanner Matlick completed 21-of-26 passes for 384 yards and three scores while
DeAndre Wright racked up 125 yards, averaging more than 11 yards-per-carry, as Monmouth moved to 5-0 on the season. Freshman
Joey Biel got in on the scoring nailing a 47-yarder – third longest in program history as the Scots scored 34 first half points.
The Scots got on the board early, scoring on their first four possessions to take a 27-0 lead in the first quarter. Matlick opened the scoring with a two-yard run before Wright reeled off a 41-yard TD run. Trent Rain's score just three minutes later was followed by a
Brock Thoms 63-yard pass reception for a score.
Jacolby Maxwell ended the first half scoring, hauling in a Matlick throw for a 77-yard TD off the catch-and-run.
Monmouth's defense was hard at it, holding the Rams to just 94 yard s rushing and under 300 yards overall.
Matt Barnes and
Michael Smith led the defense with 10 tackles each.
Next week is Monmouth's bye week, returning to action on Oct. 15 when they host Grinnell.
