Box Score Adam Parr caught two touchdown passes as Monmouth came from behind to down Carroll 22-16 for Family Weekend at Monmouth.
The Fighting Scots had to climb out of a 16-0 hole after Carroll took a 9-0 lead and then tacked on another seven points with a fumble recovery for a TD to open the second half.
Monmouth rallied in the final 20 minutes, forcing Carroll into four punts and one interception. The Scots got on the boards at the 5:15 mark of the third quarter when
Tanner Matlick took a quarterback keeper in from one yard out, completing an 11-play, 61-yard drive. The two point conversion off a faked kick PAT closed the gap to 16-8.
After the Scots defense forced another punt on Carroll's ensuing possession, the Scots struck quickly. On first-and-10 at their own 23, Matlick went up top, hitting
Adam Parr in stride for a 77-yard TD, Parr's first of two on the day. The PAT failed, and Monmouth still trailed, but pulled within two at 16-14.
Carroll countered late in the third quarter, moving to the Monmouth 15 when Kyle Burlingame hit Connor O'Donoghue for a 38-yard gain. Two plays later
A.J. Mesik intercepted Burlingame at the goal line to snuff out the threat.
Neither team could muster much offense in the final quarter until the Scots pieced together a five-play, 56-yard scoring drive when Matlick and Parr hooked up again, this time for a 40-yard scoring strike. The Scots tacked on two more when Matlick carried the PAT across for the 22-16 lead.
Matlick finished with 320 yards passing, 117 to Parr, as the Scots outgained the Pioneers 413-252.
Matt Barnes led Monmouth's defense with 15 total tackles.
