Scots bang out 34 hits in twinbill split as Gschwendtner ties saves record

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The hitters ruled in Thursday's twinbill at Grinnell where the Scots earned a split with tthe Pioneers. After a 15-14 loss in the opener, the Scots came back with a 9-5 win in the nightcap.

Trailing 10-3 in the sixth inning of the opener, the Scots rallied with nine runs in the top of the inning to put out to a 12-10 lead. Blake Abbott's two-run homer in his second at-bat of the inning was followed by a round-tripper from Raahsaan Fox.

Grinnell answered with three runs in their half of the inning to regain a 13-12 lead. The Scots plated two more runs in teh eighth, putting their first two batters on before scoring on an error and a sac fly.

The Pioneers knotted the game at 14-14 wiwh a solo run in the eighth and then scored the game-winner in the ninth with two out on a base hit to left.

After banging out 19 hits in Game 1, the Scots picked up 15 hits and a win in Game 2. Nursing a 4-3 lead inthe top of the seventh, the Scots pushed five runs across to add some cushion. After Ryan Sparks and Jesse Brucker scored to put the Scots up 6-3, Chase Bair completed the scoring with a three-run homer. Joe Kerulis picked up the wiin while Luke Gschwendtner earned his seventh save to tie him with Scott Coles for the career saves record.

Brucker led the Scots' offense with six RBIs on the day. Brucker and Sparks each went 5-for-11 at the plate.
