Box Score Chase Bair and
Grant Myers picked up two hits each for Monmouth College as the Scots hosted Illinois Wesleyan in preparation for a big Midwest Conference Weekend.
The teams combined to use 11 pitchers and bang out 26 hits in the 6-3 Monmouth loss that wasn't settled until the final inning.
The Scots took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth when
Blake Abbott's base hit drove in
Jesse Brucker with the Scots' final run. The Titans countered with solo runs in each of the next four innings to pull out the win .
Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, Bair milked a walk and Myers laced a single to put the tying runs on. IWU ended the threat with a strikeout to end the inning and set the Scots down in order in the ninth to hang on for the win.
Monmouth will host Cornell in a Midwest Conference twinbill Saturday with a conference tournament berth in the balance. The Scots will hold a ceremony Saturday at 11:15 to honor coach
Roger Sander who is retiring after 22 years at the helm.
