Big inning propels Scots to road win

Box Score Monmouth used a four-run fourth to clip Robert Morris (Springfield) Wednesday afternoon.

Leading 4-2 going into the top of the fourth, The Scots put their first four batters on base. Mark Zhorne's two-run double plated Raahsaan Fox and Lucas Giertz who had singled. A walk to Ryan Sparks followed to put two on again with no outs. Zhorne then scored when Alex Kemmer's ball was mishandled to give the Scots a 7-2 lead. Austin Hardy's sac fly added an insurance run in the inning.

Robert Morris came back with three runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 8-6 before Alex Temple came from the bullpen to end the threat.

The Scots added two more runs in the ninth as Sparks scored his third run of the game. Lucas Gschwendtner retired Robert Morris in order in the bottom of the inning to give Logan VanDeWostine his first win of the season.
