Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth banged out 11 hits in the season opening twinbill in Ft. Myers, Fla., but dropped 1-0 and 6-2 decisions to Ohio Northern Saturday.

Austin Hardy pitched 5.2 solid innings in the opener, but ONU parlayed a pair of hits, one walk and a sac fly into the only runs off the Scots in Game 1. After Hardy induced a fly out from the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the sixth, ONU scratched out a base hit and moved the runner over with a base on ball. A hit followed to set up the eventual game-winning RBU.

Hardy fanned three in the game and allowed just five hits. Ryan Sparks went 2-for5.

A third inning grand slam by Ohio Northern was enough to sink the Scots in the nightcap. Logan Spangler was saddled with the loss, working four innings and surrendering six hits and five runs was walking three. Blake Abbott went 2-for-3 with a double from the leadoff spot while Hardy picked up a pair of hits in four at-bats. Chase Bair and Jesse Brucker got the Scots' RBIs.
