Porter, Vestal, Wilson named preseason All-Americans

A month before the squad even arrives on campus, Monmouth College football seniors Jack Porter (St. Charles, Ill./Wheaton St. Francis), Kyle Vestal (Joliet, Ill./Central) and Jake Wilson (Mt. Sterling, Ill./Brown County) have been honored by USA Football Network, Inc.

The trio was named College Football Division III Preseason All-Americans by USA Football Network. It's the 26th year the network has compiled a preseason All-American team.

Porter – a 6-foot-3, 240 pound defensive lineman – was named to the first team. The communication major led the Fighting Scots with three sacks and 12 tackles-for-loss. He also recorded 48 solo stops and 62 total tackles – both second most on the team. He also had an interception and ran it back for his first career touchdown.

A history major, Vestal was a member of the offensive line that opened the way for record-setting running back Trey Yocum as the Scots averaged over 230 yards rushing per game last season. The 6-4, 300 pound Vestal was named to the third team offensive unit by USA Football Network.

Wilson – a defensive back who recorded a team-high four interceptions last fall – was named to the honorable mention squad. The exercise science major broke up a team-best nine passes and made 37 solo tackles last season.

The Fighting Scots open the season on Sept. 6 battling one of their own, 1984 Monmouth Dean Kreps, who will bring his Hope College Flying Dutchmen to April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
