Box Score Monmouth surrendered just one earned run, but couldn't overcome a three-run fourth inning to drop a 5-1 decision to Robert Morris (Springfield).
 
The Eagles took advantage of three Monmouth errors and held the Scots to just three hits at Glasgow Field. Monmouth answered a first inning Robert Morris run with one of their own in the bottom of the frame when Nic Stevens' first of two base hits on the day plated Blake Abbott. That would be the last Monmouth run of the day as the Scots stranded a pair of base runners in the first inning and put just five batters on the rest of the way.
 
Monmouth used a pitching-by-committee approach in the nonconference game, using six pitchers to allow the single earned run and striking out eight.
 
The Scots host Midwest Conference foe Grinnell Thursday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
