Déjà vu all over again in Scots - Blueboys twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth's second doubleheader in as many days against Illinois College ended in the same result as the first. The Blueboys downed the Scots 12-1 in the first game but the Scots battled back and picked up 13-8 win in the late game.
 
The Blueboys scored early in the opener, pegging 8 runs in the first two innings. Ryan Sparks provided Monmouth's only offense with a home run in the 3rd inning, his second of the weekend. Brandon Harroun went 2-for-3 at the plate, collecting two of the team's five hits.
 
IC added 5 more runs in the 5th to round out the scoring.
 
In the second contest, the Scots scored in all but two innings, including a five run 6th inning that erased a three run deficit.
 
Ryan Crandall led off the game with a single, stole second and third and scored on a passed ball. In the 2nd, Matt Glenn unloaded a Blueboy pitch over the left field fence to knot the game up at 2-2.
 
IC picked up 3 runs in the top of the 4th but the Scots didn't go away thanks to a sac fly RBI from Chase Bair and a fielder's choice from Andrew Baudino, keeping the Scots within one.
 
Sparks and Crandall both hit 2 RBI singles in the 5th, giving Monmouth a 10-8 lead.
 
Three more insurance runs were added by the Scots in the bottom of the 8th with Harroun closing the door, giving up only two hits over the last 3 innings.
Luke Gschwendtner picked up the win in relief for the Scots.
 
The split runs Monmouth's record to 9-8 overall and 2-2 in MWC play. They host Robert Morris-Springfield on Tues. April 8th for a non-conference matchup.
