Box Score Monmouth came close, but couldn't quite squeeze out enough runs in a 3-2, 5-4 doubleheader loss at the University of Chicago.
Joe Kerulis struck out seven over five innings, but the Flames posted single runs in three innings to hold off the Scots. Jesse Brucker scored twice for the Scots, doubling in the fourth and coming home on Blake Abbott's base hit to pull the Scots to within one at 2-1. After UC scored again in the fifth, Brucker opened the sixth by getting hit by a pitch and then scoring on Chase Bair's ground out, but that would be the last of the scoring for the Scots in the opener.
Andrew Baudino's two-run hit in the first highlighted a three-run inning as the Scots took advantage of a UC error. The Flames came back with two in the second and tied it with a solo homer in the fourth. A leadoff hit in the fifth eventually scored for Chicago for a 4-3 lead. Monmouth rallied when Ryan Crandall singled in the sixth, then moved to second on a gorund out, stole second and then scored on an error to knot the game at 4-4. UC then touched reliever Luke Gschwendtner for a run in the seventh to hand the Scots the loss.
