Hardy goes distance as baseball splits with Rams for second straight day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth and Cornell split their Midwest Conference doubleheader for the second time in less than 24 hours Saturday afternoon. After the teams split Friday's twinbill in Iowa, Monmouth won Game 1 5-4 at Glasgow Field before the Rams took Game 2 16-4.

Austin Hardy went the distance in Saturday's opener and got support from Jesse Brucker's two solo homeruns. Ryan Crandall added solo shot in between Brucker's round trippers as Monmouth came back from a 3-1 deficit in the third inning to tie it in the fourth on Brucker's second HR. Blake Abbott's sac fly in the sixth scored Ryan Sparks to give Monmouth a 4-3 lead before Brandon Harroun raced home with what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch in the same inning.

Cornell blasted three homeruns in the nightcap, including a fifth inning grand slam from Chris Rana to blow open a 4-2 game with a five-run inning. The Rams piled on with three more in the sixth and shortened the game with four in the seventh to earn the split for the second day in a row.
