Scots split MWC twinbill with Pioneers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth and Grinnell split their Midwest Conference doubleheader at Glasgow Field Thursday afternoon, the Scots rallying last for a 6-2 Game 1 win and the Pioneers getting two runs early for a 4-1 Grinnell win in Game 2.

After Grinnell had taken a 2-1 lead on a sac fly in the third inning of the opener, the Scots rallied with runs in the fourth and fifth. Monmouth was aided in the fourth when a Pioneer error allowed the tying run to score on Chase Bair's sac bunt. Ryan Crandall's first of three hits in the game them plated Austin Hardy with the lead run for a 3-2 lead. The Scots tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth, banging out five of their 14 hits in the inning to give Logan Spangler his team-high fifth win.

The Scots couldn't muster a rally in the nightcap despite five Grinnell errors. The Pioneers picked up solo runs in the first and second innings and added two more in the ninth to hold off Monmouth. The Scots threatened with base runners every inning, but stranded 13 in the game.
