Baseball bangs out 22 hits in twinbill loss to Pioneers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth outhit Grinnell, but fell 7-2, 8-5 in a doubleheader at Glasgow Field.

A four-run fifth inning by Grinnell in Game 1 put the Scots in a hole they couldn’t dig climb out of.  The Scots threatened in the ninth, putting four runners on, but scoring just once when Matt Glenn came home on a fielder’s choice.

After spotting the Pioneers four runs in the first three innings, the Scots rallied with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Chase Bair’s RBI double with two out in the sixth plated Brandon Harroun to make it 4-4. Grinnell answered in the next frame, putting their first two batters on and scoring both to take a 6-4 lead. Grinnell added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth to hold on for the win.
