Baseball swept at home by arch rivals

Box Score Monmouth fell 10-2, 18-7 in Sunday’s doubleheader at Glasgow Field to rival Knox.

The Prairie Fire put five runs on the board in the sixth inning of the opener to roar to an 8-0 led before the Scots could plate a run. Andrew Baudino’s base hit plated Alex Temple with the Scots’ first run, but it wasn’t enough to offset a Knox grand slam by Caleb Weaver.

Monmouth rallied in Game 2 with a four run second and two runs in the third to pull into a 6-6 tie with the Fire. Jordan Gaither delivered the big hit in the seconds, a two-run single. The Scots then took a 7-6 lead when Baudino scored on a passed ball in the fifth, but the Fire erupted for four runs in the seventh to regain the lead. Eric Smoy then added the Fire’s second slam of the day with a blast in the ninth as Knox won going away.
