Baseball's bats go silent on Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth’s bats were cold Sunday in a 5-1 loss to St. Norbert and a 22-4 defeat at the hands of the University of Chicago.

The Scots managed just one hit against the Green Knights, but Chase Bair’s second inning hit drove in Ray Gerard for Monmouth’s lone run. Brik Wedekind surrendered just three earned runs while striking out five, but came up on the short end of the score. The Scots threatened in the ninth when Jordan Gaither and Matt Glenn opened the frame reaching on an error and a walk. St. Norbert then induced a double play and then held on when the Scots’ threat ended on a comebacker to the pitcher.

Ryan Crandall opened the Scots’ half of the first inning against Chicago with a home run, but the Maroons hit six round trippers in the game to down the Scots. Crandall drove in three runs for Monmouth in the first two innings, but the Maroons offset Crandall’s bat by scoring in all by one inning as they touched the Monmouth staff for 16 hits.
