Box Score Monmouth fell behind early in a 5-2 loss to Loras, the third meeting between the teams in less than a week.
Loras touched starter Matt Hammesfahr for three runs over the first two innings and tacked on another in the third before the Scots could get on the boards. Jordan Gaither’s second double of the game with Mitch Comstock on second plated the Scots’ first run of the game to cut it to 3-1 in the bottom of the third after the Scots left the bases loaded in the second. The Duhawks parlayed a leadoff hit batsman into a run in the fourth to reclaim a four run lead.
The Scots got a run back in the seventh when Raahsaan Fox opened their half of the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a Loras error. With two outs, Matt Glenn’s hit up the middle allowed Fox to move up to third. Fox then scored on a wild pitch to trim the Loras lead to 5-2. Monmouth couldn’t capitalize on three walks in the eighth, leaving the bases loaded heading into the ninth.
The Duhawks issued a pair of free passes in the bottom of the ninth, but erased the threat with a double play. Loras closed the game by inducing a game-ending ground out.
