Baseball suffers pair of hard-luck losses

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth came up short in a pair of 2-run games Saturday at Glasgow Field.

The Fighting Scots surrendered late inning runs in a 6-4, 5-3 double header loss to Loras. Both teams scored early in the twinbill.

In the opener, Loras took a 3-1 lead after two innings, but Monmouth knotted the score in the seventh when Raahsaan Fox scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a hit. Then Mitch Comstock raced home on the Duhawks second error of the inning. Monmouth took the lead in the eighth when Jordan Gaither reached on an error and eventually came home on a balk to give the Scots a 4-3 lead. Loras rallied with three unearned runs in the ninth to hand Ray Gerard the hard-luck loss and make a winner of Jeremy Gerardy.

Nick Hull suffered the hard-luck loss in the nightcap after fanning nine through seven innings. The Scots tallied single runs in the first three innings as Hull worked into the seventh tied at 3-3. Loras’ Lucas Jacque’s two-run homer in the top of the seventh proved to be the game winner.

The Scots’ Ryan Crandall picked up four more hits to run his hitting streak to 10 games.
