Baseball falls behind early in 5-1 loss

Box Score Monmouth spotted Elms College a four-run lead en route to a 5-1 loss Friday in Florida.

Elms scored a run with two outs in each of the first two innings to hand Beau Barnes the hard-luck loss. The Scots surrendered single runs in the third and fourth innings before pushing a run of their own across in the sixth. Mitch Comstock opened the frame with a double and later scored on Matt Glenn's sac fly.

Monmouth threatened in the eighth after Raashaan Fox lined out to third to open the innng. Ryan Crandall followed with a double and Comstock picked up his second hit of the game with an infield single. The threat ended when Elms fanned the next two Scots hitters.
