Defense slows IC, but Scots come up short in Jacksonville

Box Score Monmouth's defense held Illinois College below thier season average, but it wasn't enought to stave off a 35-13 loss on the road.

After the Scots forced IC into a pair of three-and-outs on their first two possessions, teh Blueboys countered with a 65-yard drive to take a 7-0 first quarter lead. IC tacked on another score juset seconds before the half to lead 14-0 at intermission.

The Scots rallied in the second half, taking the opening kickoff on a 65-yard, 12-play drive. Trey Yocum picked up 43 of his 134 yards during the drive and scored from two yards out to pull the Scots within 14-7. Yocum's TD was set up by a 13 yard scamper by quarterback Tanner Matlick.

IC answered on the ensuing possession and added another score on their next to open a 28-7 lead that prooved too large for the Scots to overcome.

The Scots picked up 396 yards of offense as Matlick went 18-for-35 for 219 yards with two interceptions. Jack Porter and Michael Smith paced the defense with 13 and 12 tackles, respectively.
