Box Score Trey Yocum became the first Monmouth running back since Hall of Famer Ron Baker to gain 1,000 yards in three straight seasons as the Fighting Scots rolled over Lawrence 31-7 Saturday at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
Yocum churned out a school-record 277 yards on 31 carries to give him 1,053 with three games left in his career. His 23-yard TD run on the Scots' first possession was the start of his four touchdown day. A delay of game penalty after the opening kickoff forced the Scots to start the game at their own 33-yard line. A pass interference call and a 23-yard Tanner Matlick to Austin Peterson pass moved the ball deep into Vikings' territory to set up Yocum's run.
Kenny Fogerty intercepted a Luke Barthelmess pass to set up the second Monmouth score in the second quarter, setting the Scots up at their own 37. Yocum's two yard TD run capped the 11-play 63-yard drive.
Monmouth upped their lead to 21-0 at halftime when Yocum scored for the third time. He followed a 17-yard run with a 29-yard scamper to give the Scots a first-and-goal at the five, before finishing off the drive with the TD.
Freshman quarterback Tanner Matlick finished his first college start completed 13-of-21 passes for 144 yards with two interceptions.
Monmouth outgained Lawrence 545-227, holding the Vikings to just 121 yards rushing.
