Offense sluggish in 17-14 setback at Lake Forest

Box Score A pair of Monmouth turnovers set up Lake Forest's first two scores in a17-14 Scots loss on the road.

Lake Forest picked off Brik Wedekind on the scots' third possession of the game and took the lead on a 39-yard field goal. The Foresters added a TD following their second pick of the day to take a 10-0 lead at halftime.

After stalling in the first half, the Scots' offense got going in the second half. A pair of 13-play drives netted two touchdowns, the first a four-yard pass from Wedekind to Austin Peterson with eight minutes left in the third quarter to pull within 10-7.

The Foresters answered with an 11-yard scoring drive of their own to stretch their lead to 10 at 17-7.

After the Scots began the ensuing possession at their own 26 with 3:05 remaining, Wedekind directed the offense to the Lake Forest 14. Four plays later, freshman Tanner Matlick took it in from one yard out. The point after from Danny Muzzalupo trimmed it to 17-14 with 32 seconds left.

Lake Forest held on when they recovered Monmouth's on-side kick. The Foresters outgained the Scots 351-190.
