Box Score Monmouth’s Trey Yocum ran for two touchdowns to break the career rushing touchdown record set by Ron Baker from 1972-75 as the Scots held on for a 31-28 win over Cornell.
Yocum’s 33rd rushing TD from two yards out just minutes after the Rams had scored midway through the second quarter gave the Scots a 7-6 lead. The junior back then broke the record, scoring on a six-yard run late in the third period as Monmouth never trailed in the second half.
A blocked punt late in the fourth quarter made it interesting when the Rams recovered the loose ball at the Monmouth 22. Cornell went to the air to trim their deficit to the final score with 2:24 left. The Scots then kept the ball on the ground on their ensuing possession to run out the clock.
Yocum rushed for 176 yards as Monmouth put up 396 yards of offense to Cornell’s 371, all but 38 of it through the air.
