Box Score Monmouth banged out 12 hits in their season opener, but it wasn't enough to keep from falling to Dubuque 13-8. The Scots fell behind early, spotting Dubuque five runs in the first inning and another five in the fifth. Trailing 13-2 in the top of the seventh, Monmouth put their leadoff man on and followed with three hits and a walk on the way to a four-run inning. The Scots added a pair of unearned runs in the ninth on a two-run double by Ryan Crandall, but the Scots comeback fell short. Scott Kempel suffered the loss. Luke Gschwendtner came on in relief, surrendering one run on two hits in the final three innings.
