Box Score Trey Yocum set the all-time touchdown record and became only the second back in Monmouth College history to gain 1,000 yards in two seasons, but it wasn’t enough as the Fighting Scots fell 50-47 at Ripon.
The Fighting Scots and Red Hawks combined for 978 yards of offense and scored on all but six possessions.
Monmouth jumped out to a 26-15 first half lead behind two Brik Wedekind touchdowns and a 20-yard Ace Henricks field goal as time expired in the half. The Scots added two more TDs in the third period, including Yocum’s record-setting run.
Trailing 40-29 heading into the fourth quarter, Ripon answered with three fourth-quarter TDs. The Red Hawks took a 43-40 lead early in the final frame before the Scots engineered a 12-play, 75-yard drive capped by Yocum’s second TD. Ripon answered with their own 75-yard drive, taking 11 plays to take the 50-47 lead with 1:05 left.
Monmouth then put together another strong drive, reaching the Ripon 24-yard line. A Wedekind-to- Spencer Brown pass for the go-ahead score that followed was called back with a pair of penalties. Ripon held on for the win when the Scots desperation pass on the final play was broken up.
Yocum finished the day with 129 yards on 25 carries to give him more than 1,000 yards for the season with one game to play. Wedekind was 16-for-21 passing with one interception for 250 yards and two TDs. Garrett Youngren hauled in six passes for 109 yards.
