Scots and hail falls in weather delayed game

Box Score Monmouth couldn't quite overcome Wartburg or a three-hour weather delay in a 35-28 season-opening loss. With Wartburg leading 35-20 and 1:36 left in the game, the Scots nearly staged a last-minute comeback. Facing a 4th-and-21 from their own 25, Alex Tanney hooked up with Spencer Brown for a 50 yard pass and catch. Two plays later, Tanney hit Austin Peterson for an 11-yard score, the 2-point conversion trimmed it to 35-28, but the Knights recovered the ensuing on-side kick to maintain possession and run out the clock. Tanney finished with 277 yards and Mike Blodgett hauled in 10 passes for 102 yards to stretch his consecutive reception streak to 34 games. Trey Yocum rambled for 103 yards on the ground while Rod Ojong netting10 tackles including two for loss.
