Yocum breaks Scots' record in win over Knox in Bronze Turkey game

Box Score Monmouth’s Alex Tanney eclipsed the NCAA Division III career passing yards record, throwing for 405 yards in a 56-27 win over Knox. The win was the Fighting Scots’ 13th straight over the Prairie Fire in the Battle for the Bronze Turkey. Trey Yocum scored the Scots’ first two TDs on runs of 30 and three yards in the first quarter to move past Charlie Corle as the single season record holder for touchdowns and give Monmouth a 13-0 lead. He added one more in the fourth quarter and finished the regular season with 21 scores. Yocum also posted 138 yards rushing to tie the season record with eight 100 yard rushing games and logged his fifth straight over 100 to tie the consecutive 100 yard game mark. Mike Blodgett snared 13 passes for 239 yards and three TDs to set the season record for receptions with 102, en route, Blodgett stretched his consecutive games with a catch mark to 43, also a team record. After the Scots jumped to a 20-0 lead, the Fire came back with 14 second quarter points to trail 27-14 at halftime. Knox put together a 73-yard drive in the third period to pull within six before Tanney hit Spenser Brown with a 24-yard scoring strike. The Scots added another quick strike to Blodgett when the ensuing kickoff deflected off a Knox player and the Scots recovered at the Fire 43. Jacob Wilson added an interception return to set up the Scots’ final score midway through the fourth quarter. Tanney hit Blodgett for his final TD of the day, a 21-yard touchdown, on the first play of the possession. Monmouth leads the series 63-50-10.
