Scots pull away from Red Hawks in second half

Box Score Monmouth’s quick-score offense countered Ripon’s 26-minute advantage in time of possession and cruised to a 42-17 win to stay unbeaten in the Midwest Conference. The teams were tied at 14-14 at halftime, but the Fighting Scots shut down Ripon’s offense in the second half and exploded for 28 points. After Brik Wedekind scored early in the third quarter to put Monmouth up 21-14, Trey Yocum sprinted 73 yards for a TD as the Scots never looked back. Mike Blodgett scored his third TD of the day on Monmouth’s next possession as the Scots scored on three of their four second half possessions. The final possession ended when time expired. Monmouth cranked out 554 yards of offense as Alex Tanney completed 15 of 23 passes for 318 yards, 194 to Blodgett. After a slow start Yocum finished with 112 yards on 13 carries. Adam Hoste led four Scots in double figure tackles with 17 while Curt Redington added 14 stops.
