Late Yocum run keys Scots' win at St. Norbert

Box Score Monmouth was held to 40 points below their average, but managed to pull out a 10-3 over St. Norbert to take sole possession of first place in the Midwest Conference. Tied 3-3 in the fourth quarter, Trey Yocum broke two tackles and scampered 46 yards for the winning TD with 1:09 left to put the Fighting Scots in the driver’s seat. The Scots’ winning score came after the Green Knights were stopped inside the Monmouth five-yard line twice in the second half. Punter Brik Wedekind changed field position for the Scots in the fourth quarter, nailing a 54-yard punt after the Scots’ had stalled at their own 46. Monmouth put points on the board first when Matt Batton kicked a 33-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. St. Norbert answered with a 35-yard field goal of their own just before halftime. Linebacker Rod Ojong posted a team-high 15 tackles (10 solos) and cohort Adam Hoste added a dozen stops. Monmouth’s national-leading offensive was held to 333 yards while quarterback Alex Tanney threw for 253 yards while being sacked three times. Mike Blodgett hauled in nine passes for 102 yards.
