With 20 seasons leading the Scots' volleyball program, coach Kari Shimmin is the longest-serving women's coach in Monmouth College history and is second among all coaches, regardless of sport or gender.
Shimmn's teams have averaged nearly 20 wins per season. Her 300 victories easily makes her the winningest coach in Fighting Scots’ volleyball history. In 2010, Shimmin earned the Midwest Conference Coach of the Year award after guiding the Fighting Scots to their first conference title since 1982.
Not only do the Scots excel on the court, but also in the classroom where the team has earned six team academic awards from the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA). In 2014 Mackenzie Gillund earned the team’s second Academic All-District recognitions as presented by CoSIDA in cooperation with Capital One.
The 1997 Monmouth graduate came to Monmouth from what was then known as Union High School in nearby Biggsville, Ill. Her success on the prep courts transferred to the college game where she was a four-year letter-winner and a two-time All-Midwest Conference volleyball selection at outside hitter (1995 and 1996), earning her induction into the M-Club Hall of Fame in 2011.
Shimmin received her Master's degree from Western Illinois University. Shimmin and her husband, Hank, reside just outside Monmouth at Lake Warren with their four daughters.
