Kyle Wilson is the 11th head coach in the 42-year history of the Monmouth College women’s basketball program and enters his sixth season at Monmouth in 2020-21 after taking the reins prior to the 2015-16 season.
Wilson's women have made steady improvement under his tutelage building their win total and qualifying for the Midwest Conference Tournament in 2019, their first trip to the postseason since 2014. Picked to tie for seventh by the league’s coaches in the preseason poll, the Scots surpassed expectations, finishing second in the MWC regular season and league tournament. The team opened the season with nine straight wins on their way to a 10-win improvement from the 2017-18 campaign.
The team got over the hump in the 2019-20 season, claiming the MWC Tournament title and an NCAA berth while rolling off a school-record 21 wins. Wilson's women also produced an All-Region honoree - only the second in program history and the first since 2009 - when Becca Gallis earned the honor at the season's end. Gallis was also named the league's Player of the Year - the first Scot so honored.
Since Wilson took the reins, Scots have earned seven all-conference honors – three in the 2018-19 season. The team has excelled in the classroom as well, earning nearly 20 academic all-conference awards. The success off the court included the 2015-16 Monmouth squad receiving Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll accolades from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association for the first time in program history.
Prior to Monmouth, Wilson served as an assistant at a pair of Division II institutions, Henderson State University (2013-15) and Pfeiffer University (2012-13). At Pfeiffer, Wilson helped guide the Falcons to a 25-7 record and the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in 2013. Wilson has also served as an assistant coach at Adrian College (2008-12) and Hanover College (2004-05, 2006-08).
Student-athletes have achieved great success on and off the court under Wilson. During his coaching career, Wilson has worked with 14 players that have scored 1,000 or more career points and earned seven all-American selections and more than 50 all-conference honors.
Wilson earned his undergraduate degree in physical education from Hanover College in 2005 and a year later earned his master’s from Xavier University.
