Jordan, Brian

Brian Jordan '09

Brian Jordan took the reins of the women's tennis program at Monmouth in 2013 and in 2015 added the men's program to his duties after serving as the top men's assistant since 2008.

Jordan's men flexed their muscles in 2015, taking a trio of runner up finishes at the Midwest Conference Championships, a feat they came close to repeating in 2016. After a one-year hiatus from the league team championships, Jordan guided the team to a return trip, making the four-team field for the third time in his first four seasons. Jordan’s men were on the cusp again in 2019 when they claimed a pair of runner up finishes in singles.

The Scots' women also made big strides during the 2014-15 season, posting the most wins since 2008. They threatened the mark in the 2018-19 campaign when they turned in their highest league finish since 2008 and had two players win the consolation titles.

As a player, Jordan helped the Fighting Scots men's team to a school-record 22 match wins in 2006 as the team recorded their highest conference finish since 1972. A fierce competitor, Jordan carried that enthusiasm into his other college activities. When not playing tennis, he served as the drum major for the Fighting Scots marching band. It was not unusual to see Jordan wearing Braveheart face paint while directing the band during Scots home football games.

One of the founding fathers of The Scotsmen, Monmouth's all male a capella group, Jordan graduated from Monmouth with a degree in music. He is married to Wendy Downing, the Director of Admissions at Monmouth College. The couple live in Monmouth and you will often see them at Fighting Scots athletics events. (Or hear them as Coach Jordan lends his voice to the PA at various events!)
