After serving as the top men's assistant for a year, Kooten Johnson took over the reins of the men's program in the fall of 2013 and enters his seventh season in 2019 with the second most wins in program history.
Under Johnson's guidance a total of eight Scots have been named all-conference. Nearly 30 of Johnson's Scots have claimed academic all-conference honors. The 2018 squad experienced success on the pitch, claiming the most wins since 2014 when the Scots tied for the final spot in the Midwest Conference Championships.
In his inaugural year, Johnson set the program standard for most wins by a rookie coach at Monmouth. That's not surprising as Johnson has coaching blood running through his veins. His father, Dr. Eric Johnson, is the head coach at nearby Western Illinois University. The younger Johnson was a four-year starter for his father’s team and was a two-time Summit League Fall All-Academic selection. In 2010 he earned the league’s All-Conference honors. He was named team captain in his senior year.
Johnson earned his undergraduate degree in kinesiology from Western Illinois University.
