Todd Skrivseth was named the 26th head coach in the history of the men’s basketball program at Monmouth in 2011. In 2023 he led the Scots back to the Midwest Conference Tournament with a third-place finish in the regular season, despite being picked near the bottom of the preseason coach predictions.
Picked sixth in the MWC prior to the 2017-18 season, Skrivseth’s team proved the critics wrong, winning both the league and championship tournament titles, earning the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, the team’s first conference title and NCAA appearance since 1990. The Scots earned back-to-back MWC berths in 2018-19, marking their first back-to-back appearances in 20 years. That season also saw Will Carius break the single-season scoring record and earn All-American honors, the first for the Scots since 1978.
The 2014-15 team set the tone for recent success, surging to a 16-8 record and finishing second in the league while completing a 9-1/2 game turnaround from the previous season to qualify for the four-team conference championships. It was the program's first tournament appearance in 16 years.
The squad also experienced a first when Andrew Mathison was named all-region in 2015, becoming the first men's basketball Scot to earn that distinction. During the 2016-17 season, Skrivseth witnessed history when junior Will Jones joined the 1,000-point club, eventually finishing his career with 1,492 points – the third-most in program history.
The Maquoketa, Iowa, native who earned his undergraduate degree in 1996 from then-conference rival Coe College, resides in Monmouth with his wife Sarah, an All-American track athlete in her college days, and their three children.
