Monmouth College Athletics

Now in his 16th season at Monmouth, Derrick Johnston coaches the linebackers. Johnston played outside linebacker at Blackburn College where he was a two-time team captain and all conference performer. 

Johnston's linebackers have gained national attention of late when Matt Barnes was named a Gagliardi Trophy and Cliff Harris Award finalist in 2016.
 
Johnston is employed as a Vice President of AG and Commercial Lending at Midwest Bank and also serves as a Chief and Firefighter/EMT with the Central Warren Fire Protection District. He resides in Monmouth just a short walk from campus and has two children. His daughter Haley played tennis and volleyball for the Scots, his son, Patrick, is a freshman wide reciever at Monmouth.
