Ron Nelson, an all-conference shortstop for the Scots in 1976, returned to his alma mater as an assistant baseball coach in 2007.
Nelson is head coach Alan Betourne's right-hand man and works with the infielders. A talented baserunner as a player, Nelson brings that expertise to the first base coaching box, helping many batters stretch a single into extra bases.
A 1978 grad and career .355 hitter, Nelson was a slick-fielding shortstop back in the day. His11 total bases in a single game as a senior is the third-highest total in program history. As a junior he led the team with a .385 average. Nelson resides in Knoxville.
