The Monmouth College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at home against Augustana College on Tuesday afternoon. The Scots outshot the Vikings 15-9 and put seven shots on goal but neither team found the back of the net.
"Today we showed we can build two-third and play more soccer than the last game," said head coach
Ian Hatleli. "We just have to find that last ball. We came close and had some good opportunities but we have to get the ball in the net.
Both teams forced saves early as
Luis Villa (El Paso, Texas) protected the Monmouth net and freshman
Mikah Allen (Swansea, Illinois) tested the Vikings keeper. Villa made a pair of saves in the first five minutes of the second half before the Scots took over possession for a solid stretch.
Alex Cruz (El Paso, Texas) had a shot saved in the 49th minute and Allen had another one knocked away 10 minutes later.
Isaac Price (Peoria, Illinois) tried his luck from distance but had a shot saved in the 63rd minute and
Ryan Rodriguez-Gardea (El Paso, Texas) was denied with 15 minutes to play.
Bryan Corona had the Scots last shot on goal in the final 10 minutes and Villa preserved the deadlock as he made a save with five minutes to play.
"The guys were hungrier today and it showed," said Hatleli. "We won more balls in the air today.and as long as we work hard and play as a team we have a good opportunity moving forward."
