The Monmouth College football team won two of the three Midwest Conference Performer of the Week awards on Monday after their dominating 49-6 win at Lake Forest.
Chase Newman (Morrison, Illinois) was named the Offensive Performer while
Derek Chandler (Monmouth, Illinois) won the Special Teams award.
Newman had a career-best day at Lake Forest on Saturday. He tied Monmouth's single game record with four receiving touchdowns, scoring once in each quarter. Newman posted career highs with 12 receptions and 163 yards in the game.
Chandler blocked two punts for the Fighting Scots on Saturday. In a 21-6 game he blocked a punt on the LFC 23 in the third quarter. Two drives later he blocked another punt on the LFC 39, returning it 20 yards. He also posted four tackles in the game and forced a fumble on the second play of the day. .
The duo joins
Mylee Hansen (Pekin, Illinois) from last week as MWC Performers of the Weeks for this season. The Scots are in the Midwest Conference bye week and return to action at Grinnell on Oct. 4.
